That empty feeling in your tummy might just be all in your head. Before you reach for the snack drawer or refrigerator, take a deep breath and get in touch with what your body is telling you. Is it food you need or something else? Thirst is often mistaken for hunger and even mild dehydration can slow your metabolism. Start your meal with a glass of water. You just may find you're a lot less hungry than you thought. Once you decide on a snack, think about the food you've chosen—its texture, scent, and flavor. As you eat, keep tabs on how satisfied you are. It might sound like a lot of work, but thinking about your food will change how much of it you eat. You might be surprised how quickly you're full!
